Over 60% of the horse’s weight is muscle; and unfortunately their body responds to stress via hyper contraction on muscles. Horse’s can be extremely expressive during their sessions, and tend to be very responsive and reactive. Minor discomfort may occur when treating areas of sensitivity, but often times they work out of it and follow with a form of release- licking, chewing, and yawning. Horses may try to help during sessions by leaning into areas, stretching, and communicating via body language. We encourage a quick walk about after massage sessions to relax muscles and offer fresh water to promote hydration. It is safe to work or ride your horse immediately after, however giving them the day off is encouraged!
